Me: Let’s talk this out…
She finally agreed…
I was able to calm her down….
Me: Shola calm down okay… we’ll sought this out. I don’t want you to be stressing yourself over what’s now…
Shola: I’ve heard you… I’ll be going to school now… I’ll call you when I get there okay…
Me: Okay… I love you Shola!
She left my presence as she got into a cab.
I turned to head home…
On my way, I made a new friend in an Northerner.
Me: How far…. Se you get igbo
Northerner: Me, I no get o… I no get igbo
Me: Wetin you con get now… I wan dey alright…
Northerner: No worry.. I go find something for you….
He brought out a plate filled with different green materials…
Me: Hey, wetin you dey do for there?
He got a ryzla, brought ingredents and mixed things…
Me: Me I no want again o… no worry…
I left his presence only for him to pursue me….
Northerner: Take am… e go make you good…
Me: I no want… no worry…
He was not going to agree so I took it… so he could at least leave…
Me: So how much?
Northerner: Na N500…
I gave him the money…. That was the last naira note I had, I’ve not changed everything…
On getting home, I sent Shola a text message…
*Shola…. You know, as a mother to be, you shouldn’t be getting angry
anyhow… you should take things easy.. I understand everything… so take
it easy*
There was no reply as at that time so I decided to take a nap in the sitting room…
My sister came to meet me…
Kemi: What will you have for lunch….
With my eyes closed,
Me: Anything…
Kemi: What’s anything?
I opened my eyes and tried to sit upright…
Me: Kemi, what’s this you’re wearing?
Kemi: What does it look like I’m wearing?
Only recently has she started acting very rude to me… but I felt I had just come and should take a chill at things…
Me: Why are you getting rude? Are you okay?
Kemi: What do you mean am I okay…
I couldn’t believe she was talking to me…
So I stood up…
Me: What did you say? Who’re you talking to Kemi?
Kemi: Oh… so you’re a ghost now?
I couldn’t take it any longer…
I lunched her face with two simultaneous slaps…
She started crying almost immediately….
I left her presence…
I went to my room… and got on my bed…
I remembered what I got from the Northerner…
I went to kitchen to get matches…. Came back to my room and locked the door….
I lit up the ryzla and there was smoke everywhere…
The thing was so conk I was dizzy in no time…. Then my eyes were heavy my body was becoming lighter….
I threw the thing into the toilet and went to sleep…
I didn’t regret dealing with my sister at all…
After much sleep, I got off bed ignoring my phone and went outside to see what was happening… There was nothing…
I went on to my sister’s room… as she was sitting on the bed with her earpiece…
She removed it as soon as I got in…
Me: Kemi….
Kemi: Yes, Jide…
Me: Can I talk to you?
Kemi: I’m listening…
Me: I’m sorry…
Kemi: I know… I’m sorry too…
Me: Sorry for what… *I went to sit by her side on the bed*… I wasn’t
myself… and I escorting Shola didn’t end well… she got angry along the
way…
Kemi: Oh… sorry to hear that… The thing is I find it difficult to
pinpoint why you get to impregnate a girl, and everybody’s still acting
like it’s a normal thing… like you got away with it easily… and me, I’m
the one who has to be kept indoors all day…
Me: Kemi, it’s not what you think… or you want to pregnant also?
Kemi: No… but I don’t even get to be with a guy… it doesn’t make sense to me..
Me: I understand Kemi… it’s all protection… but its lapsing soon.. soon enough…
I hugged her and proceeded to leave her room…
Kemi: I love you brother… and I’m sorry for acting rude…
Me: It’s okay…
I went back to my room to check on my phone…
There was a missed call… but no message….
Nolly had called earlier….
I beeped her immediately…
I was beginning to feel somehow… I was still surprised Shola hadn’t replied me…
Some minutes later, My phone rang..
Nolly: Hey lover boy… how’s you doing?…
Me: I’m okay… how are you?
Nolly: I’m good… I called you earlier…
Me: I saw it… what’s going on?
Nolly: I heard results are coming out soon…
Me: Oh… don’t scare me..
Nolly: It’s nothing baby… I’ve missed you
Me: I’ve missed you too….
As the call went on, my phone alerted me…. I quickly checked the screen to see what was happening…
Shola was calling but her call was waiting…
I cut Nolly’s call immediately..
Shola: Jide… what’s going on?
Me: I don’t know… we should just chill…
Shola: You’re not making me good… I’m not happy Jide…
Me: I believe we can talk things out… I just came back from school… give me some time to sought it out…
Shola: Well, I’m in school already… you didn’t even ask If I was safe
Me: Are you safe?
Shola: Yes. Thank you.
Me: I love you Shola. So much!
Shola: I know… but learn to treat me right.
*call ended*
Nolly tried calling me back, I wasn’t feeling myself..

Next week came and I and Shola talked casually and semi-normally…
She called me on Friday morning…
Shola: How are we going to see the doctor? Cos he said he really wants to see you…
Me: Send in the address… maybe I’ll come meet you…
Shola: I’m still in school… and you know I’ll be coming in the evening…
okay… I’ll send in the address so you’ll come meet me there… maybe in 2
hours..
Me: Okay… good…
*call ended*
The address came in almost immediately, I went to prepare my meal… as I was very hungry…
Kemi: ahn ahn… you didn’t call me to cook ni?
Me: No… I don’t want to stress you Kemi.. let me handle this…
Kemi: no… what do you want?
Me: I want to do eba… and you won’t be able to get the exact size I want… I’m very hungry…
After arguing about who will cook…
I won and did my cooking….
In about 45minutes, I was in the sitting room with the pot…
The eba and soup all mixed together in the pot….
After my meal, I went to have my bath and later got dressed…
2 hours was almost up… so I set out for my short journey…
I hailed a cab and gave him the address…
As there was no currency so I had to tell him to get me to the nearest bureau…that was very risky… but I had no choice…
We got to the bureau and I changed half of what I had… about N50,000…
After which we set for the hospital….
We were there in no time… as Shola was there waiting at the gate…
After paying for the fare…
Shola: Why where you late?
Me: There was little traffic… and I branched somewhere…
Shola: Where?
Me: The bureau…
Shola: Okay… well the doctor is waiting….
We went inside together… and were told to wait by the reception…
Me: I thought you said he was waiting already…
Shola: Yes, but when you weren’t early enough…
We waited for about 15 minutes before we were called in…
Me: Good evening sir…
Shola: Sir, this is my boyfriend…. Jide…
Doctor: Oh Jide… Nice… I’ve always wanted to meet you…
Me: Shola told me everything sir… hope she’s not giving you too much trouble sir…
Doctor: No not at all… Please sit down…
Doctor: She’s really a good girl… of good behavior….
Shola: Thank you sir…
Me: Hmm…
Doctor: Jide… so how’s life in S.A?
Me: Life is good sir… manageable as always…
Doctor: Good… good… the rumour of South Africans hating on Nigerians….
Me: Yes sir…like you said a rumour… although… we hear such news… but I’ve South African friends… enough of them …
Doctor: Oh well… that’s good.
Doctor: Umm…. I’ll want to meet with you alone.. for now….
Me: Okay sir…
Shola: What’s it about sir?
Doctor: No it’s nothing… just man to man talk….
Shola stands up to leave…
I held her hand…. And brought her closer as I approached her lips with a kiss…
She was very nervous!
Doctor: Jide… you know Shola is 6months plus now..
Me: Yes sir…
Doctor: Good… the baby she’s carrying is a 50-50 chance
Me: I don’t understand sir… what do you mean by 50-50….
Doctor: The baby she’s carrying has a 50% chance of living… the child might not make it alive… she might die in the womb…
Me: Why’s that sir… *as I frowned my face at him…. I was saddened immediately*
Doctor: You see, Shola doesn’t rest… she moves about every time… but
that’s not the case… apart from all that… Shola may not be able to give
birth herself…
Me: Ah! Doctor, that’ll be enough… Is that why you want see me?
Doctor: I just want to disclose it to you… I may not be on duty when she’s in labour…
I stood up and got out of the door…. I ran outside….
Shola: What happened?
Me: It’s nothing baby… let’s go…
Shola: *She stopped me* Baby tell me what’s wrong?
Me: It’s nothing Shola…
Shola: No… Jide, tell me… please
Me: The doctor complained about you stressing yourself, and it’s not good for the baby…
Shola: How’s that even possible… so that’s what got you angry
Me: Yes… that’s it..
Shola: it’s school now Jide… oya let’s go back to the doctor so I can explain to him…
Me: No… that’s not necessary…
I left the hospital as she later followed me…
