I went on my bed after parking my stuffs… I thought of getting Shola a
present. But what will I get her, as nothing was coming to my mind…
I called my mum to confirm the date again.
Me: hello ma… so I want to confirm I’ll be coming tomorrow..
Mum: Yea. But we won’t be around as me and your dad are going for a week outing…
Me: *After laughing hard* really mumsi, but you told me it was all business earlier on. Anyway, what about Kemi..[My sister]
Mum: She would be at home. So she’ll take care of you.. I’ve given her instructions also.
Me: Okay ma..
Mum: Yes, safe journey. Make sure you call when you arrive. Take care.
*Call ends*
I tried to sleep but sleep wasn’t coming. As I was the only one in the room, I decided to find some fun…
Me: Seun, where una dey now?
Seun: we just chaply comot go buy something… se you don dey room?
Me: Yes.. se una don dey come?
Seun: we go soon dey come no worry.
In trying to hold on till their arrival, I decided to do some cleaning…
I cleared the whole locker and checked for anything I might forget…
There came around and met me.. I had cleaned the whole room by the time they arrived…
After some gisting, we played some games after which I went to sleep…
I must have slept for so long because I was awoken by Nolly’s call…
Nolly: hey wake up!
Me: okay. What’s the time are you ready..* I checked the time and it was 7am.*
I cut the call and go off my bed…
I went to get have my bath and get dressed…
I called Nolly
Me: Babe, I’m ready.. Where are you..
Nolly: I’ll be with you shortly.
I parked my stuffs after saying goodbye to my folks….
Nolly came by in an unusual way…
She wore this long native with some shades, things people wear to burials…
Me: What’s with your dressing…
Nolly: Nothing, I’ve not had my bath… so I just wore something.
I got inside the car, and to save her the stress, I decided to drive…
The journey to the airport took about 1hour after we experienced light traffic here and there…
8am, I was in the airport..
On getting to the airport I started remembering everything, how I
entered the airport with Shola then… I’m a totally changed man now.
Then, I entered that airport as a naïve guy who was in love with just one person….
If shola hadn’t gotten pregnant, I probably wouldn’t have still be with
her… but the love was there… she was my first love.. she introduced me
to everything I know today…
We got inside the airport through the departure wing….
After locating South African through the notice board, we went straight…
as we found people were already check-in for the journey…
I was in a heist but Nolly sat me down…
Nolly: Jide, I need to talk to you *She said as she smiles*
Me: What’s that baby?
Nolly: I’m going to miss you…. But at the same time, please don’t do
anything funny… I know you’re committed to me now… but you know you
guys…
I cut her short as I approached her lips with mine….
We were cut short by onlookers who were murmuring…
Me: I’m not going to do anything funny. Trust me
I stood up and joined the queue to checkin
Nolly: so when are you coming back babe? *As her face was shrinking….*
I went on to her, and hugged her…
Me: Baby, you shouldn’t be crying… common… I’ll be back sooner than you think… I love you. Okay.
I left her and joined the que….
Sooner than I thought, I was next in line…
I submitted my passport with the ticket… after verification… I was able to check-in…
One difference was that… at that moment… I realized Shola was just different.. everything about us was different…
I waved to Nolly as I got to the point of no return…
30minutes later, we got in the jet-way and I was inside the plane…
There was this huge feeling…. And nervousness…
What will Shola look like?
