I got a cab as usual….
In no time… we were home….
As I got in… it was always going to be my sister…..

We entered the house….

I left with her… leaving Nolly with my dad and sister….

Me: Mummy it’s not like that o… I’ve met her since I got to the school….
Mum: So what about Shola? What are your plans sef?
Me: Mummy, I’ve broken up with Shola… long ago… even before I went back to school… I just didn’t want to mention it….

Me: The doctor said the baby cannot survive…. And Shola caused it…. In
fact… it was one of the things that led to our break up then… it’s a
very long story.
Mum: Oga o… and you people just kept quiet… there are lives involved here.
I told her everything about Nolly…..
Mum: You’ve to go and see Shola tomorrow….
Me: I’ll try… but I can’t go with Nolly…
Mum: You mean, she doesn’t know you’ve a baby?
Me: How do you expect I tell her I’ve a baby…. That doesn’t even make any sense…
Mum: Jide…. And you now brought her again…. You certainly weren’t thinking….
After I was released… Nolly was still in the parlor, although my sister had packed all our luggage to my room…
Me: Baby… come with me…
We got into my room….
Knowing fully well, my parents were going to be against me sleeping in the same room with her….
Just as everything was getting heated….
My sister stormed into the room…

Kemi: Jide…. Daddy said she can’t stay here with you… so she’ll stay with me…
She left the room, and I allowed things to calm down, before transferring the message to Nolly…
Me: You’ll be staying with my sister…
Nolly: Why?
Me: My parents don’t like this idea…. It’s just normal culture thing… it’s nothing… as we are yet to be married…
Nolly: So that means it’ll be me and your sister, all the night…
Me: Yes…. But we’ll be sneaking to do our thing of course….

The next morning, I woke up very early…. Knocked on my sister’s door…
I dragged her outside from her sleep….
Informed her about what I was going to do…. And that I needed her to keep Nolly calm… till I’m back.
I got the hospital around 8am….
After getting the description of the ward from the nurses outside….
I opened the door….
And Shola was still sleeping….
I went to see the baby….
First her complexion was chocolate skinned…..
It was obvious, if at all she lived…. She was going to grow a lot of hair….
I tried to carry her up….
There were a lot of things connected to her…. Which were of course scary for a baby….
She cried…. And her mother woke….
Shola: Jide…. It’s you…..
Me: Yes it’s me…. How are you?
Shola: hmm I’m okay…. *she started crying…..*
Shola: Jide…. For 3 weeks now…. The baby has not been responding… she’s been on life support or what do they call it… and now you came…. That’s the first time I’ll hear her cry after delivery….
Me: Shola, it’s going to be okay…. She’s going to be okay…
Me: Shola, it’s a long story… very long story I’m not ready to explain….
Shola: I know you’re seeing someone else… so that should at least, cut the long story short….
Me: It’s not all about that… anyway…. I’ve come to say hello…. And I’m going to be here for some time… you know it’s the long vac…
Shola: Baby…. I so want you back….
Me: Shola, don’t start now… it’s not even good for you now….
Shola: What do you mean don’t start… I’m okay… it’s just the baby… and she’s going to be okay soon also… everybody’s going to be okay Jide… My husband…
Me: Shola, we’ll talk… have you eaten?
Shola: No…. it’s still early…
Me: Okay, let me go get something for you…
I went to the nearest eatery…. Tantalizers…
I got a whole rice, chicken, ice cream, drinks….

We started gisting…. Until my sister called me…
Kemi: Jide… Where are you now? Or you forgot you left someone at home….
Me: I’m coming very soon… I’m on my way…

With the call, it was more like they were not getting along really well….
I rushed back home after telling Shola I was going to come and see her next the next day or the next…
I met them in the parlor seated….
Nolly got up…. And looked at me with a very funny eye….
Me: I’m sorry…. I stayed too long….
Kemi: How’s she?
Me: How’s who? *I gave her mad eye contact*
Kemi: I mean your friend’s mum?
Me: Oh she’s okay…. I even forgot….
Kemi: Good…. That woman shouldn’t just die now…
Me: Shut up! She won’t … Nolly have you eaten? Or in fact… let’s go out….

I drove to an eatery….

I got off the car….

We left the place and headed home…. On our way…

Me: For what…. Aren’t you supposed to be with the baby….
Shola: The doctor told me already…. The baby won’t survive Jide..
Me: Calm down Shola… calm down… I’m driving now…. I’ll call you later….
Shola: Jide I’m talking to you….
I cut the call….
Kemi: Jide…. Calm down…. Just calm down okay…
Me: I don’t know why you two will be fighting with each other
Nolly: So you received a call concerning the two of us fighting?
Me: No Nolly… look I need to chill out… you people give me a break please.
The whole car was quiet….silent like a grave yard…. Although the yelling of motorists, the horns….. Still found their way…
We got home….. And I walked straight to my room….
I called Shola back…
Shola: So you’ve my time now?
Me: Shola what’s your problem?
Shola: Anyway…. The doctor said you should come immediately.
I went to the doctor immediately….
D: I believe you both know the situation on ground….
As we were talking…. Shola left my presence….. And went off the doctor’s office…
Me: Where are you going to?
The doctor insisted I calm down….
D: The baby would be dead anytime Jide…. I want to know your plan for the future….
Me: Future? We’ve broken up already…. For a long time….
D: That’s really a big one…. How did you plan to keep the baby before?
Me: We both have parents…. So definitely, someone was going to take care of her…
D: You see what we say about all these things…
Me: I understand sir…..
The next day, news came in from the doctor, the baby died….
All I could tell my mum was that she was premature and couldn’t survive….
Even though, the death of the baby was caused by her mother….herself….
The news, Shola confirmed it….
Shola: Jide, the baby is dead…
Me: I know…. And it’s okay….
Shola: I need to see you…. I can’t go through this alone….. I can’t…
Me: Shola, you need to calm down…. I’ll come and see you okay?
Shola: Okay…. But I want to come…. Please….. Jide……..
